We want to join European internet surveillance case

DFRI has together with EDRi and eleven other European digital rights organisations asked to intervene in the case Big Brother Watch and Others v. The United Kingdom which was brought before the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) last year.

The request was sent in yesterday and brings up two topics.

  • The legal protection of communications, in particular for “metadata” or “traffic data”
  • How internet surveillance affects the work of organisations like ours

The next step will be the Court deciding on the request (PDF).
